The Stony Plain Skating Club is a member of Skate Canada - the largest figure skating governing body in the world and a world leader in learn-to-skate programs. Skate Canada and the Stony Plain SC are committed to the development of personal excellence through participation in skating.
Instruction:
The Stony Plain SC uses only certified professional coaches to instruct all of our programs. The Stony Plain SC coaches are dedicated to excellence in instruction and are committed to continuing education in the field.
You will also see Program Assistants helping our coaches during CanSkate sessions. These assistants are skaters currently registered with our club who are interested in learning how to work with children in sport. They receive training seminars and on-going instruction from the professional coaches on how to work with young skaters. They are helpers only, not coaches.
CanSkate:
Our learn-to-skate program (CanSkate) is for everyone ages 4 and up - from first time skaters to advanced skaters who would like to improve their technique. This program benefits all types of skaters (recreational, figure skating, hockey and ringette) by teaching and improving both basic and advanced skating technique.
The 7-stage badge program we follow is Skate Canada's CanSkate program. More information on the badge program and grouping of skaters is available here.

Group STARSkate:
Our Group STARSkate program is designed to serve as stepping-stone into the STARSkate / Competitive figure skating programs, as well as offering an option for a recreational skater who wishes to enjoy figure skating at a leisurely pace. The transitional program (formally JumpStart) teaches skaters (ages 5+) the skills needed to become a figure skater, and the recreational program helps skaters further develop these skills.
Group STARSkate is taught in a group format with instruction by professional coaches. Weekly private or semi-private lessons are recommended. Skaters are grouped by age, skill level and intent of program as appropriate.

Figure Skating:
Our quality figure skating program is designed to help skaters achieve maximum personal growth while realizing their skating potential. Separate Junior and Senior ice times allow for low number of skaters on each session. Extensive on-ice group sessions include edge/turn/footwork, conditioning, jump, spin, creative and performance classes. Off-ice group sessions include sessions featuring weekly jump, ballet and conditioning classes as well as seminars in mental skills and performance. Lessons are enhanced by the use of a jump harness, video camera with rink-side playback and special seminar sessions.
Skaters have the opportunity to compete as members of the supportive and enthusiastic Stony Plain Skating Club Competitive Team.
